Is Man More Than a Plant?

A leaf is infinitely complex;
Yet, it is still a leafy whole  -
Each leaf is unlike the next;
Yet, each leaf is also alike.

Leaves jointly contributing,
To support the whole plant;
Plants jointly contributing,
To support the whole community;
Communities jointly contributing,
To support the whole ecosystem;
Ecosystems jointly contributing,
To support the whole biosphere...

Vegetation in fecund diversity,
Yet each relates to the sun's light,
In their very own unique way.

Mankind, who believes itself to be,
More infinitely complex than any,
Simple flora, believes itself to be,
A self-contained stand-alone event.

Each person, believes themself to be,
A self-contained stand-alone event;
While at the same time demanding,
That each and every one be the same.

What if, someday, we believed ourselves to be,
A leaf?
